On social media it’s very important to stay consistent with posting on platforms to keep awareness and guide the customer to the decision phase for businesses. You always want to stay relevant and have an online presence, but there is a marketing myth that posting more is “Marketing Better” from a decade ago. In reality, it’s not about the quantity of what is being produced.
Quality over Quantity
Quantity can be a successful marketing tool for a company, but what do we lose in the process?
We lose the main point. “Quality” is the thing that can grab someone’s attention when scrolling through something such as Instagram or Tiktok! Would you or other people you know stop to watch, or read something poorly made with less effort? The answer is most likely no.
Flooding a platform with posts just dilutes the brand’s identity. They start to feel increasingly less meaningful to the audience when the whole point of Marketing is to engage and connect with your audience to create a relationship. Better marketing is when you focus energy on how you can connect with others, and how they can see value in the brand.
Aspects of Quality to take into account:
- Prioritizing intentional content
- Staying true to Brand’s identity
- Strong strategy with SMART goals in mind
- Posting content consistently
Social Media Algorithms
A decade ago, this myth came from the idea on platforms, such as Facebook. Many companies would over post everywhere in order to increase their reach.
This was due to the fact of how the social media algorithms ran back in that time. Due to fewer competitors, they strived and reached many numbers with this strategy. But around 2017-2018, Facebook had changed how their algorithms worked. They focused more on “meaningful interactions”.
One brand in particular is “BuzzFeed”, who was once a prominent giant on the internet. With many different series of different quizzes, news, interactive articles, etc. The company would use this quantity approach, reaching an average of 281 million visits.
The Takeaway
Ultimately, posting more does not mean better marketing. Marketing works on a basis of who and what the brand is hoping to achieve with campaign, or presence, in general. Brands want to stay consistent with messages and intentional posting, to build trust and loyalty to the brand. Spending time on this can create an authentic community and better ROIs (Yay!).
